What Are Math Dominoes?
Math dominoes is a classroom game where students build a line or “train” of cards by connecting answers to matching problems. Students can take turns adding to the line, or they can race to be the first to get rid of all their dominoes by solving problems quickly and accurately. This makes the game both flexible and adaptable—you can choose the pace and style that best fits your classroom. Whether students are practicing multiplication facts, working on division facts, or reviewing fractions, they’ll stay engaged because the game naturally provides motivation and a clear goal.

How to Play Dominoes
-
Shuffle the dominoes and place them face down. Each player draws 8.
-
The first player lays down a domino with an answer in the center.
-
The next player connects a domino with a matching problem.
-
If a player cannot move, they skip their turn and draw.
-
Play continues until someone uses all their dominoes.
The rules are quick to teach and easy to remember, so you can focus on skill practice instead of giving long instructions.
Differentiation Options
Racing
A high-energy version where there are no turns. Split dominoes evenly, place one in the center, and let students race to get rid of their set first. This fast-paced option gets everyone actively solving and thinking on their feet.
Collaborate
Give teams a set and challenge them to build the longest domino train possible. They’ll connect problems to answers as a group and then try to beat their time in the next round. This cooperative style builds teamwork, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills.
