Through rain, snow, wind, and shine, this Weatherman Classroom Transformation never fails to give students a fun learning experience! This transformation tests students’ math skills they learn per grade. A student will become a weatherperson as they complete all the math challenges. This is the perfect activity for students who need a fun and engaging experience while practicing math skills. It aligns with common core math standards.

WEATHERMAN CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 1:
First, I tell my students that they are going to solve 10 math challenges that are weather-themed. The great thing about this classroom transformation is that it practices a wide variety of skills per grade. This is perfect for kids who need extra practice on standard math skills, while also giving the class an exciting day of weather-themed fun. I add a rainbow-themed float to our room to really set the scene!
WEATHERMAN CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 2:
Next, I hung up weather patterns from the ceiling all over the room. When the kids walked in, they saw rainbows, thunderstorms, rain clouds, wind, and snowflakes “falling” all over our classroom. It’s not necessary, but students love to see decorations that make this room transformation look real.
WEATHERMAN CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 3:
After that, I gave each student a “Meteorologist” badge for them to wear while they played the game. They got to write their name on it and I called them “Weatherwoman ________” or “Weatherman ________” each time I checked their challenges. If their work was correct, they moved on with the other challenges. If not, they had to start again.
WEATHERMAN CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 4:
Next, I put each QR code on a separate card and hid them around the room. When the kids finished all ten math challenges, they went on a scavenger hunt to find the QR codes and learned fun facts about meteorologists and weather. Early-finishers love this.
WEATHERMAN CLASSROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 5:
When students finished all the challenges, they received a certificate of completion and a small reward. I gave out weather pencils and erasers, but other teachers have used dojo points, homework passes, or have used this during their science unit to integrate other skills.

“Extras” certainly aren’t needed for room transformations, but they can be super fun if you want to include them! If you want to add any extras, you may like some of these ideas.
I also offer all room transformations in a DIGITAL format! This means students can complete the challenges on Google Slides if you’d like to save on paper. The QR codes/fun facts also come in a digital game format that students can complete and copy down online. You can learn more about how to do a digital room transformation here.
