Grab your scrubs because it’s time to save some sick pets! This Veterinarian Classroom Transformation is great for all elementary school levels. Students must complete 10 math challenges as they pretend to be veterinarians. This is always a huge hit in my classroom. Who doesn’t want to spend the day helping animals? This transformation aligns with common core math standards.

If you’re looking for ways to bring real-world math problems into the classroom, look no further! This transformation incorporates real-world problems that are vet-themed. With each grade level, kids always have a blast learning!
VETERINARIAN ROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 1:
Before starting, I put up some extra decorations to help make it feel like a real vet hospital. I found adorable dog balloons on Amazon that look like real puppies, which I put around the room. I also put paw prints all over the floor and had my kids dress up as veterinarians.
I place ten posters and challenges around the room. The kids have to go to each “pet” and complete the math challenge in that area. They have to help cure the sick pet! The challenges vary per grade level, but all have to do with real-world problems in the veterinary clinic.
VETERINARIAN ROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 2:
First, I explain the rules of the transformation to my class. They must complete 10 challenges to win and have a time limit to do it in. I give each student a recording sheet so they can keep track of each math challenge as they complete it. Later, the kids have me check their work for accuracy and initial their recording sheet to ensure completion. This keeps the students on track and lets me know how they are progressing.
VETERINARIAN ROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 3:
When students have solved all ten math challenges, they win! After the students finish, I also have them complete a QR Code Writing activity where they go around and scan each QR code on each poster. They learn fun facts about animals and veterinarians to help them connect the classroom transformation to the real world. This really helps me with early finishers and also incorporates writing into the activity.
VETERINARIAN ROOM TRANSFORMATION STEP 4:
Finally, I give out a prize at the end for completing all of the challenges! I found these dog balloons on Amazon that my class got to take home as a prize for finishing. They LOVED them! The kids also get to take home an official certificate stating they are true veterinarians now. These are always a huge hit.

“Extras” certainly aren’t needed for room transformations, but they can be super fun if you want to include them! If you want to add any extras, you may like some of these ideas.
I also offer all room transformations in a DIGITAL format! This means students can complete the challenges on Google Slides if you’d like to save on paper. The QR codes/fun facts also come in a digital game format that students can complete and copy down online. You can learn more about how to do a digital room transformation here.
