If you’ve ever wondered how to do a classroom transformation, the truth is there’s no single right way—it’s all about finding what works best for you and your students.
Classroom transformations come in all shapes and sizes, and they can vary greatly depending on a bunch of factors like the year, your specific class, your school’s policies, your budget, the time you have, and more. And you know what? That’s totally cool! There is no right way how to do a classroom transformation!
Sometimes, I get all excited and go all-in, spending a whole hour decorating my classroom to create a magical learning space. On the flip side, there are also those times when I’m in a rush. Then, I manage to set up a classroom transformation in just 15 minutes. Both approaches work, and both are totally doable!
Veterinarian Day

The pictures you see here are from my Veterinarian Classroom Transformation over several years. I made it a tradition to do this every year when I was teaching. Yet each time, I did things differently based on what felt right for my students and me that year. There’s no one-size-fits-all method for doing a room transformation. It’s important to remember that!
In my first year of Vet Day, I kept it simple. To illustrate, I grabbed a box of hair nets and gloves from Walmart. When kids completed their challenges, they got a shiny new pencil. It only took me about 20 minutes to set up because it was my first time. I was still figuring things out.
Then there was that one year when I went all out. I covered the entire room with posters, decorations, and even bought dog-shaped balloons for all the kids to take home as a special reward at the end of the day. That setup took a good hour to complete.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to get creative. In response, I put paw prints on the floor, handed out veterinarian name tags to the kids, and rewarded them with “no homework” coupons at the end of the day. It didn’t cost me anything extra! I had it all set up in just 15 minutes.
The Results!
Did I love one class more than the others? Definitely not! Did one class enjoy the day more than the others? Nope. Did one class learn more than the others? Not at all!
But you know what? Every class loved that we did something out of the ordinary. They all learned a lot about multi-step word problems, and they all thanked me at the end of the day, appreciating the unique experience.
The core content the kids were working on didn’t change. What changed was the atmosphere and setting in the room. I did what felt right for me and my students at that time, and it worked like a charm every year!

Don’t Forget!
There is no right way how to do a classroom transformation! So, here’s my classroom transformation tip for you: Do what feels right for YOU! There’s no one right way to do it. What makes classroom transformations special is the element of surprise and breaking away from the usual routine, and that’s something all students love.
