There are 4 volume games to help students practice their math skills – in a fun way! They align with 5.MD.3, 5.MD.4, and 5.MD.5. These 5th grade spiral review math activities are great for additional practice or could even serve as quick 5th grade math assessments during the beginning of a 5th grade measurement unit. They’re made to be flexible so you can use them how YOU want to!
WHAT’S INCLUDED? (PRINT AND DIGITAL)
- Activity: 1: Count to Find Volume
Students find the volume of the figure.
- Activity 2: Find the Answer
Find the volume of the figure. Then, do what it says in the box.
- Activity 3: Multiply to Find Volume
Multiply to find the volume of the figure.
- Activity 4: Real-World Volume
Find the volume of the figure.
HOW TO IMPLEMENT:
There are 11 problems included in each of the 4 games (total of 44 questions).
- Digitally: The first problem is always an example for students so they know what to do. I would recommend completing 5 questions during your lesson together and assigning the other 5 for students to complete independently. Or, assign all 10 after going over the first example slide together. They are provided in Google Slides so you can assign them in Google Classroom.
- Print: Print the task cards out and put them in a math center. Have students record answers on the recording sheet provided. Students can use the self-checking answer key to check their work. You can choose between the color and black and white option.

✅5th grade Common Core and TEKS aligned
———————————————————————————————
- Aligns with Common Core 5.MD.3
Recognize volume as an attribute of solid figures and understand concepts of volume measurement.
- Aligns with Common Core 5.MD.4
Measure volumes by counting unit cubes, using cubic cm, cubic in, cubic ft, and improvised units.
- Aligns with Common Core 5.MD.5
Relate volume to the operations of multiplication and addition and solve real-world and mathematical problems involving volume.
- Aligns with TEKS 5.4G
Use concrete objects and pictorial models to develop the formulas for the volume of a rectangular prism, including the special form for a cube (V = l x w x h, V = s x s x s, and V = Bh)
- Aligns with TEKS 5.6B
Determine the volume of a rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths in problems related to the number of layers times the number of unit cubes in the area of the base
This aligns with Florida BEST Standards (B.E.S.T.)
- MA.5.GR.3.1 Explore volume as an attribute of three-dimensional figures by packing them with unit cubes without gaps. Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths by counting unit cubes.
- MA.5.GR.3.2 Find the volume of a right rectangular prism with whole-number side lengths using a visual model and a formula.
- MA.5.GR.3.3 Solve real-world problems involving the volume of right rectangular prisms, including problems with an unknown edge length, with whole-number edge lengths using a visual model or a formula. Write an equation with a variable for the unknown to represent the problem.
