Description

Do your students need more practice with 4th grade patterns? Are you looking for engaging, rigorous 4th grade math activities that will help students practice finding addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division patterns (without taking hours to prep!)? Look no further! Students find the next number in the sequence, find the rule, practice with input – output tables, and see what they notice in patterns. These print AND digital 4th grade math activities will meet your grade 4 students’ needs.

This resource is included in the 4th Grade Math Games Bundle. Click here to save 50% on math activities for the whole year!

There are 4 pattern games to help students practice their math skills – in a fun way! They align with 4.OA.5 and TEKS 4.5B. These 4th grade spiral review math activities are great for additional practice or could even serve as quick 4th grade math assessments during the beginning of a patterns unit. They’re made to be flexible so you can use them how YOU want to!

WHAT’S INCLUDED? (PRINT AND DIGITAL)

  • Activity: 1: Fill It In

Students figure out what the 15th number in each pattern is using their math skills.

  • Activity 2: Find the Missing Numbers

Students look at each function table (in / out table) and decide what the missing number is based on the pattern’s rule.

  • Activity 3: What Do You Notice?

There is a different pattern in each multiplication table or hundreds chart. Students look at the pattern and tell what they notice in a multiple choice format.

  • Activity 4: What’s the Rule?

Students figure out the what the pattern’s rule is and choose it from the choices given.

HOW TO IMPLEMENT:

There are 11 problems included in each of the 4 games (total of 44 questions).

  • Digitally: The first problem is always an example for students so they know what to do. I would recommend completing 5 questions during your lesson together and assigning the other 5 for students to complete independently. Or, assign all 10 after going over the first example slide together. They are provided in Google Slides so you can assign them in Google Classroom.
  • Print: Print the task cards out and put them in a math center. Have students record answers on the recording sheet provided. Students can use the self-checking answer key to check their work. You can choose between the color and black and white option.

—————————————————————————————————————

  • Aligns with Common Core 4.OA.5

Generate a number or shape pattern that follows a given rule. Identify apparent features of the pattern that were not explicit in the rule itself. For example, given the rule “Add 3” and the starting number 1, generate terms in the resulting sequence and observe that the terms appear to alternate between odd and even numbers. Explain informally why the numbers will continue to alternate in this way.

  • Aligns with TEKS 4.5B

Students will represent problems using an input-output table and numerical expressions to generate a number pattern that follows a given rule representing the relationship of the values in the resulting sequence and their position in the sequence;

This aligns with Florida BEST Standards (B.E.S.T.)

  • MA.4.AR.3.2 Generate, describe and extend a numerical pattern that follows a given rule.
