WHAT’S INCLUDED?

✅ MINI LESSON

This math unit also includes a mini-lesson or interactive notebook page with photos showing you how to help students glue the notes into their notebooks. This gives students something to reference when they get stuck or need help while doing homework at home.

✅ 10 MEASUREMENT CONVERSION WORKSHEETS

Students practice converting measurements in lots of different forms. Students get to practice their measurement conversion skills in a variety of ways, complete error analysis questions, and more in the ten worksheets provided.

✅EMOJI MATH SORT

This is a sorting activity where students put a smile or a frown emoji on top of each task card. If the answer is correct, a happy smile is put on top of it. If the wrong answer was found, the students put a frown on top of the task card. All task cards focus on converting measurements error analysis.

✅ CUT AND PASTE ACTIVITY

Students will love this no-prep, print and go additive angles activity page. Students glue each food onto the plate based on the additive angle it goes with. Students use their knowledge of additive angles to figure out the value of X on each pair of angles.

✅ REAL LIFE MEASUREMENT

Students find objects around the classroom to measure. They fill in the recording sheet with their answers. Students measure in cm and then convert to meters using their conversion skills.

✅ CONVERTING PRACTICE PAGES

There are 6 different pages included. Teachers can use them in a variety of ways. Students can record real-life mass, time conversions, real-life measurements in meters and centimeters, volume, and more.

✅GAME #1: FLAMINGOS AND DINOSAURS

There are 2 versions of task cards included. In the first version, students measure how long the flamingos are on a ruler in yards. They then convert the amount of yards to feet on their recording sheet. The second version contains dinosaurs. The dinosaur version is harder because students measure to the nearest “half yard” instead of “whole yard”. This is a great activity for differentiation and meeting all ability levels.

✅ GAME #2: BUILD A SNOW DAY GAME

Each player gets a background to build their snow day on. Playing cards and pieces go in the middle. Each time you get an answer correct, you earn a piece for your snow day. Chance cards are provided to spice up gameplay. You never know who’s going to win with these included! The first person to finish getting 10 items in their snow day picture wins! All task cards focus on measurement conversion word problems.

✅ GAME #3: WHOLE CLASS GAME

I call this game “Bucket Filler!”. Set up the task cards all around the room for students. Print enough of each task card for every student. Give each student a recording sheet. Let students wander the room and solve each task card. When they solve a card, they bring it to the teacher to be checked. If it’s correct, they get to drop the task card in a bucket. At the end of gameplay, the teacher draws names out of the bucket. Those students earn a small prize as a reward (an eraser, a pencil, etc).

✅ GAME #4: RACING GAME

This game is called “Line Them Up!”. In the game, students race to see which team can line their cards up in the correct order first. Here are the steps to play. Mix up each set of cards well. Give a set of cards to each team. Start the race. Students find the START card first. They put this down. Once the start card is found, students find the answer to the equation. They continue to “Line Them Up” until they reach the FINISH card. The first team done wins!

It’s perfect for students in fourth grade or need remediation in fifth grade with additive angles during a measurement and data unit. There is a color and black and white version of each game and activity included.

All games come in color and black and white versions.

Aligns with TEKS 4.8B:

  • convert measurements within the same measurement system, customary or metric, from a smaller unit into a larger unit or a larger unit into a smaller unit when given other equivalent measures represented in a table

This aligns with Florida BEST Standards (B.E.S.T.)

  • MA.4.M.1.1 Select and use appropriate tools to measure attributes of objects.
  • MA.4.M.1.2 Convert within a single system of measurement using the units: yards, feet, inches; kilometers, meters, centimeters, millimeters; pounds, ounces; kilograms, grams; gallons, quarts, pints, cups; liter, milliliter; and hours, minutes, seconds.
