How to Play Grab It

  1. Lay out the circle cards face up.

  2. Stack the rectangle cards face down in front of students.

  3. Flip the top rectangle card; students race to grab the matching circle card.

  4. The first student to grab it keeps the card as a point.

  5. Continue until all rectangle cards are gone—the player with the most cards wins!

Alternative Ways to Play

To keep addition and subtraction fluency practice fun, try these variations:

  • Split the deck so partners race to finish their section first.

  • Play as teams to encourage cooperation and strategy.

  • Scatter circle cards around the room for a math scavenger hunt.

  • Add a timer—students try to beat their own best time in a second round.

  • Partner checkpoint: players can only advance once both have matched their cards.

  • Whole-class version: display a rectangle card and let everyone race to find the correct answer.
