When many people think of classroom transformations, they think:
“This would take me hours to set up.”
“This is going to cost so much money.”
“This looks so overwhelming.”
“I could never do this!”
What if I told you classroom transformations could be EASY to set up, FUN to implement, and STRESS-FREE?
Let’s Start with the Basics…What is a Classroom Transformation?
A room transformation changes your room into a certain setting or theme to engage students in their own learning with rigorous content.
Classroom transformations are possible in EVERY classroom. You don’t have to spend hours of your time setting up a classroom transformation or spend lots of money to make it SO MUCH FUN!
Simply print the 10 alphabet letter activities, put up a few included decor items, and you’re ready for a great day!
This themed learning day has 10 centers that all give alphabet practice with letters. You can use 1, 5, or all 10–it’s flexible!
⭐HOW TO USE:⭐
⭐STEP 1: Tell your class what the theme is for the day!⭐
They will complete alphabet activities set up around the room. You can do this for a day, a few days, or over the course of a week!
Set-up is quick and easy. Simply print the posters, 10 activities, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin!
Flexibility is key. Need to modify? No problem!
Choose how many centers students will need to complete and what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.
⭐STEP 2: Students Complete the Themed Activities⭐
Let students move around the room and complete each center. They can be completed in any order.
An optional recording sheet is included. When a student finishes a center, you sign that spot on their recording sheet to keep track of what they’ve completed.
Freedom to choose. Students can work in partners, rotations, groups, or independently. Your choice!
⭐Step 3: When Students Finish⭐
When students finish all the activities you’ve assigned, they win! You can give them the included certificate, coloring page, or a small prize of your choice.
A shopping guide is also included to give you suggestions of optional “extras” you could add in.
Remember, anything different from a “normal” day in the classroom is special to students! A reward at the end isn’t required during a classroom transformation.
⭐Step 4 (OPTIONAL Fast Finisher Activity / Write the Room): ⭐
Most of the time, there are early finishers. These kiddos get to go around the room and complete a Write the Room activity! No one is ever bored. Choose between 2 versions:
- Words: Students write each word they find around the room. This version is great for students reading on a kindergarten level.
- Sentences: Students find each card and write the correct letter on their recording sheet. This is great for students who are on grade level.

⭐Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ): ⭐
Can I edit this?
No, the Alphabet Letter Classroom Transformations are not editable.
Will a classroom transformation cost me a lot of money?
NO! Classroom transformations, or themed-days, do not have to cost you a fortune to complete. In fact, you can use ONLY what’s included in this purchase and have a great day with your students! Decor, posters, the academic centers, and more extras are included so you have more than enough to set the scene. You do not need to spend extra money! There is more than enough for you to transform your classroom without spending any additional money. There is a shopping guide included for teachers who’d like to add additional supplies but that is completely optional.
How long will this take to set up?
It depends! Are you going to use all of the decorations provided or just a few? Are you going to buy additional decorations or just what’s included? You could set this room transformation up in as little as 10 minutes with just a few included posters printed out and put on the walls. There are also teachers who like to spend a few hours decorating their rooms. There’s no wrong answer and I’ve done both! Students LOVE a change from the normal environment and that’s what makes a room transformation special–not how many hours you spend setting it up.
Personally, I like to set aside about 30 minutes before the school day starts to set up my room. Whatever I get done in that time period is what my students get to enjoy. This works perfectly for me–do whatever works best for your classroom! The important thing to remember is anything different from a “normal” day is going to be SO much fun for your students and they will love it no matter how much effort you put into decorating.
How long will it take my students to complete the room transformation?
- If you are completing a math room transformation, I would estimate 1-2 hours.
- If you are completing a 3-5 reading room transformation, I would estimate about 2-3 hours.
- If you are completing a phonics-based room transformation or alphabet letter themed day, I would estimate 1 day to 1 week (depending on how many activities you use).
- If you are combining a math and reading room transformation together, I would allow several hours for students to complete the room transformation or spread it out over the course of the week.
***Please note that these time frames will vary depending on: how many students you have, how quickly they work, what grade level you teach, ability levels, working in partners/groups/individually, etc.***
Can I do a room transformation in a shorter amount of time?
These room transformations are made to be flexible! If you only have 30 minutes to an hour to complete the room transformation, you’re able to use this resource! I include 10 centers in each room transformation for students to complete. You could easily have students complete 5 (or any number you’d like) of the centers to make it work for your time period. You can also have students work independently or in groups to make things go quicker or slower.
Can students complete less than 10 centers?
Absolutely! Have students complete however many you think are appropriate for your classroom.
When do you recommend doing a room transformation?
The best time to complete a room transformation is at the end of a unit! When you’ve finished a skill and want to provide a fun, informal assessment of what students have learned, this is the perfect activity to pull out! I also love to do room transformations before holidays and on Friday afternoons as a reward for working hard all week.
How do you check student papers during a room transformation?
Students need to come see you to be checked after each academic center they complete. To help ease the number of papers you need to check, I suggest trying one of the following ideas:
- having a few answer keys available for students to check themselves
- Have early finishers help you check other students’ papers
- Have students work in small groups or partners (fewer papers to check and students can assist one another)
- Check students after every 2 centers instead of after every station
- Invite volunteers in on your room transformation day to help
- Put centers together in a packet for easy checking
