WHAT’S INCLUDED? (PRINT AND DIGITAL)

Game 1: The Missing Number

There are 11 problems included in each of the 4 games (total of 44 questions).

Digitally: The first problem is always an example for students so they know what to do. I would recommend completing 5 questions during your lesson together and assigning the other 5 for students to complete independently.

Print: Print the task cards out and put them in a math center. Have students record answers on the recording sheet provided. Students can use the self-checking answer key to check their work. You can choose between the color and black and white option.

Aligns with Common Core 1.OA.3:

  • Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Examples: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)Aligns with 1.OA.3: Apply properties of operations as strategies to add and subtract. Examples: If 8 + 3 = 11 is known, then 3 + 8 = 11 is also known. (Commutative property of addition.) To add 2 + 6 + 4, the second two numbers can be added to make a ten, so 2 + 6 + 4 = 2 + 10 = 12. (Associative property of addition.)

This aligns with 1st Grade Texas TEKS:

  • TEKS 1.3D: apply basic fact strategies to add and subtract within 20, including making 10 and decomposing a number leading to a 10
  • TEKS 1.3E: explain strategies used to solve addition and subtraction problems up to 20 using spoken words, objects, pictorial models, and number sentences
  • TEKS 1.3F: generate and solve problem situations when given a number sentence involving addition or subtraction of numbers within 20
  • TEKS 1.5F: determine the unknown whole number in an addition or subtraction equation when the unknown may be any one of the three or four terms in the equation
  • TEKS 1.5G: apply properties of operations to add and subtract two or three numbers

This aligns with Florida BEST Standards (B.E.S.T.)

  • MA.1.AR.1.1 Apply properties of addition to find a sum of three or more whole numbers.
