If you want to spend a day in the Jurassic Period, the Dinosaur Classroom Transformation is for you! This is a fantastic test-prep classroom transformation before state math testing. It reviews all common core math standards in a rigorous method. In this real-world activity, students become paleontologists for a day. They practice math and interact with dinosaurs at the same time! Students are able to work individually, in pairs, and even in groups.

DINOSAUR CLASS TRANSFORMATION STEP 1:
First, I decorate my classroom as dinosaur-themed. This is not necessary, but it did make the transformation more fun! I found great items on Amazon that made it look like our classroom was a part of the Jurassic Period. Personally, I bought fake leaves to lay on the floor, hats for our dinosaur exploration, and a large graphic to hang on the wall. I even bought dinosaur eggs, which my students adored!
DINOSAUR CLASS TRANSFORMATION STEP 2:
Next, tell your class how this classroom transformation works. They have to find the ten challenges around the room and complete all twenty problems for them to win. This dinosaur classroom transformation is perfect for all elementary students.
DINOSAUR CLASS TRANSFORMATION STEP 3:
Each time a student finished a challenge, I checked and signed their recording sheet to keep track of their work. The most exciting part of this classroom transformation is that they get to look for dinosaur fossils after they complete each math challenge. I put my dinosaur fossil papers in some buckets filled with rocks and sand. The kids sifted through the buckets to look for each dinosaur fossil they needed.
DINOSAUR CLASS TRANSFORMATION STEP 4:
When students finished all ten math challenges, I rewarded them with a dinosaur egg from Amazon. The eggs crack open and grow dinosaurs when put in water. You can imagine how crazy the kids went over these! A simple prize can really motivate a kid to do well during the challenges.

“Extras” certainly aren’t needed for room transformations, but they can be super fun if you want to include them! If you want to add any extras, you may like some of these ideas.
I also offer all room transformations in a DIGITAL format! This means students can complete the challenges on Google Slides if you’d like to save on paper. The QR codes/fun facts also come in a digital game format that students can complete and copy down online. You can learn more about how to do a digital room transformation here.
