I’ll be honest…when we first shifted to virtual learning, I struggled. I had no idea how to teach online and felt completely out of my element. While trying to figure out how to make a digital classroom actually work, I stumbled across using Google Forms for assessment and practice—and it quickly became one of my favorite discoveries. Once I realized how simple and efficient it was, I knew it was something I’d keep using long after we returned to in-person learning. Here are five benefits of Google Forms specifically for teachers!
Benefit #1: Self-Checking

I adore Google Forms for many reasons, but my FAVORITE part about using them is that they save me grading time. Teachers have more responsibilities on a daily basis than they’re able to keep up with. If some of the grading can be taken off of my plate, I will happily accept anytime. Google Forms helps me work smarter, not harder.
Benefit #2: Quick Feedback

Students don’t have to wait for me to grade their quiz or go over the answers with the whole class. Right away, they’re able to see what they got right and wrong.
Benefit #3: Data Collection

Google forms also help with data analysis. When you’re using paper and pencil to give an assessment, you have to make a spreadsheet and put the data in yourself to see which questions were the easiest, most missed, and so on. With Google Forms, I’m able to immediately see which question I need to go over or which concept needs to be retaught.
Benefit #4: Flexibility

Google Forms comes with so many different options in the settings. This is great because no two teachers are the same. Some teachers prefer for students to be able to see their grade right away. Some prefer that the grades are released after the quiz has been reviewed. You can also assign point values, add or change questions, set the self-grading on or off, decide how to assign the google form, have one question per page or multiple, and so much more!
Benefit #5: Mobile Friendly

Even though my district has been working to make sure every child has a device, things happen. Some devices break, get lost, misplaced, lose their charge, are forgotten at another location, and the reasons go on and on. But the one constant that my students seem to have at their house is access to a mobile device. If they don’t have a laptop available, they might have access to an iPad, tablet, or phone. Google Forms are mobile-friendly and easy for kids to do on a much smaller device.
There are so many benefits of Google Forms for both teachers and students. I plan to continue using Google Forms on a regular basis so my students and I can both enjoy the advantages of what they provide. Let me know if you use Google Forms in your classroom!!
